#001 FESTIVAL EDITS

#001 STRANGERS AND CHARM:

PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE DEPTHS OF RAVE:

A farm, a field and fairies. The three things you need for three days to embrace escapism.

Why do humans desire to go into a visual, sonic and spiritual fantasy so strongly?

Our lives can feel unfulfilling in comparison to a short dose of music, intoxication and the perfume of strangers. No one has come out of a festival without learning something about themselves or the wider world. The only structure that infringes on your life is a line-up. And even that doesn't matter. What festivals attempt to show us, is the extreme psychological discomfort of our 9-5 working world. And of course to teach you how to have a damn good time.

We all find footage on our phones, that have great sentimental value but have little photographic quality. However it's worth picking out photos not for their HD resolution, but for their individuality and edge.

Shapes

Taken from both Glastonbury Festival and Farmfest. A Man styles my glow in the dark ears. Pixelating this photo and distorting the colours helps to emphasise the sense of overwhelming colours and movement in such environments.

Sqaurepushing

The glow-in-the dark ears made another feature with this man. I only talked to him because he had some ecstasy he didn't want. No matter how small, it's mandatory to have at least one accessory at a festival that you wouldn't style in everyday life; Glitter, neon, costume, masks.

00.21am

The night is un-hatching. Glade is a timeless venue with multiple tents of Techno, House, Psytrance and DnB. The people you get here don't care about queuing into Shangri La or going to the commercial dance area Silver Hayes. Only the sound and atmosphere matters.

Dusk

Field Trip Festival Saturday Evening/Glastonbury Monday morning. Both moments had a pleasant calm about them. For Field Trip this was refreshing, you need a mental break from heavy sound-systems to take in the visuals.

Beat Hotel/Sunday Night. By the end of the festival, people relax a little, mainly because their body can do little else. Whilst gazing into the dimly lit Beat Hotel to witness the thud of Jamie xx, everyone takes a deep sigh and enjoys the last night down the rabbit hole.
